Sharing History at the Washington State Fair

History, shared face to face
Richard and fellow volunteers presented the booth and welcomed visitors to explore history together. Alongside Washington State History Museum displays, the table featured historical information, a colorful history activity wheel, and materials connecting Washington’s stories with America’s 250th anniversary.
The photos capture the heart of community outreach: young people meeting visitors, sharing an interest in the past, and making history part of an everyday conversation.
A youth tribute to America’s 250th
The booth also featured the Washington Youth Signature Project, presented by Youth for History as a youth tribute to America’s 250th anniversary. Its signature-filled banner celebrates a shared connection to Washington, history, and the future.
A fair with a history of its own
Puyallup has hosted the Washington State Fair since 1900. Originally known as the Valley Fair and later the Puyallup Fair, it has grown into a major September gathering. The City of Puyallup reports that the fair welcomes more than one million visitors each September—a fitting setting for bringing local history to a broad community.
